Choosing the Right Travel Coffee Mugs

We all just love our cup of coffee so much that many folks these days don't leave home without it as they run around with their own travel coffee mugs just bursting with java. But all travel coffee mugs are not the same and I'm not just talking about design here, I'm referring to quality too.

One of my work colleagues is on her second travel cup now in just 3 months, as the first one had an inadequate seal. Now if she had spent a few extra bucks from the outset and purchased from a reputable brand, then she would surely have saved in the long run.

Obviously, most of today's travel mugs and thermoses are insulated so that your coffee or other brew will stay hot longer, or cold if it's cool beverage, but you really do have to go for quality with these drinking vessels otherwise there's no point to them. If they don't seal correctly, the drink won't retaining its heat as long as it should do, plus you could get coffee stains on your clothes if it drips and dribbles.

The great thing about today's quality thermoses or a travel mugs is that anyone can take coffee with them from the home, and this means drinking rich, fresh roasted coffee while out and about, plus it works out at about one-seventh of the cost of buying that same brew from expensive, crowded coffee shops.

Let's take a peek at some of the popular types of travel coffee mugs around today:

The stainless steel mug is very popular and robust and they are just great for keeping your favorite beverage cold or hot. A popular size for many travel cups is the 16oz.

You might also want to consider travel mugs that have detachable slide tab closure lids as they are usually pretty splash proof and can be tossed around without worry.

If you're on the move a lot, or need travel coffee mugs for the car, then carefully choosing a model with a good grip is imperative. Ergonomic rubber handles or comfortable side grips are usually the best option here.

When looking for leak proof travel mugs, there are some models that feature up to three silicone seals which ensure no spills of your beverage. One seal might do just fine on a quality brand name, but there are options which have extra seals to guarantee zero spillage. All models, both cheap and expensive will boast a seal proof feature, but the reality is that some of them don't deliver on this.

Stainless steel aside, another virtually unbreakable material used in many travel coffee mugs is polycarbonate and you might want to look as some of these models while you're shopping around and see how they fit and feel in your hand.

Remember, it's not worth skimping on travel mugs and not all travel cups are created equal. They will all claim to have locking lids, but the reality is that many turn out to be nothing more than over-priced dribble cups, so make sure you get it right first time if you're always on the move.
