A keen interest in collectible teapots!
Everyone has to collect something right? Even folks who claim they do not collect actually do if the think about it carefully. My sister said collectors are geeks until I pointed out she had 27 pairs of shoes! Of course, some people collect for all sorts of reason. Some stockpile items for fun, many for decoration, and others for investment purposes. The last few years have seen a real keen interest in collectable teapots and I'm one of those that have
jumped on the teapot bandwagon. Here's why.
I recently found some collectible teapots that are very endearing. This particular collection involves an Alice in Wonderland theme that is perfect for such items. I also stumbled across a group of Disney collectable teapots that brought back warm memories of childhood.
I think that the Alice in Wonderland theme is so perfect because the tea party is such an integral part of the tale. It is also my very favorite part of the story. When I first saw the Alice in Wonderland collectible teapots I immediately remembered the story. I hadn’t thought about the book or the cartoon for many years.
These collectible teapots brought back fond memories from my early childhood. I remember my mother reading the story to me at bedtime over and over again at my request. I think about the mirrored room and Alice’s journey with clarity when I look at the collectible teapots in this collection.
There are literally 1000's of unique teapots to collect and some are extremely unusual not to mention rare. I'm not a chronic collector of collectable teapots, but I do have a very scarce and impressive collection nonetheless. Being of British origin, it's our love with the tea leaf that makes teapots such interesting items, and I'm always looking out for that next rarity.
I always wondered why my grandmother bought collectible teapots. Now I understand. Her generation was one that took teatime very seriously. Maybe she had special friends who would meet her for these get-togethers just as many of us have coffee mornings today. Depending on the occasion, formal or informal, friends, visitors, or family, I would imagine she'd get out a tea service to suit the occasion.
It was the fine collection that she left behind when she died that first got me interested. She had a number of figural and porcelain teapots, not to mention her ceramic teapots, 5 antique teapots, 2 very special cut glass teapots, miniature teapots and even an old set of teapots cast iron types. Oh, and let's not forget her favorite and much used collectable English teapots
My grandmother was very fond of Victorian décor and the theme of a tea party has always been a favorite of hers. We arranged for a Victorian tea party for her 70th birthday and she never stopped talking about it until the day she passed away. We didn’t use her valuable collectible teapots in the party, but we did supply her with plenty of others to add to her stash.
I used to look at her collection of tea pots as a mass of clutter. I wondered why anyone would want to gather up so many items that just accumulate dust. After looking more closely at these collectible teapots, they brought back so many happy memories from days gone by, and then I finally understood why collectible teapots can be very rewarding!
Take a look online and you will surely see some amazing shapes, designs and styles from around the world. If nothing else, it'll have you reaching for the kettle as your taste buds crave a nice cup of Rosie Lea (tea). There's no drink quite like it
